I had posted before on the availability of a Firmware upgrade for Nissin Di622 here. The latest update as below when I wrote to them again. So looks like we have to wait for a little longer 🙂

Recently, i came across this website (Strobist by David Hobby) that provide extensive coverage on how to operate your off-camera flash=strobe=speedlight.

Since I am still trying to digest the infos from David’s site, I will try to share some quotes & video from David’s site from time to time.

David highlighted that one should make these decision before they start, these 7 questions are:

• Where am I going to put the light – and why?
• How am I going to get it to stay there?
• How am I going to trigger it?
• What will the quality of the light be: Hard or soft?
• What will the beam spread of the light be – wide, narrow?
• How will I balance the strobe’s intensity with the ambient light?
• How will I balance the strobe’s color with the ambient light?

David on “umbrella”

The silver is more efficient (throws back more light) and the white satin is softer and can double as a “shoot-through” umbrella. The silver version comes with a black backing to control spill

David on”gel”

Back to light color. Florescent light is not white. It is a sickly, putrid green. If you are not gelling your strobe green to match it, objects lit by your flash will be white and the ambient-lit portion of your frame will be green. This is a problem that even Photoshop cannot fix.
