That’s right, you read the post title correctly!

Andrea found a recipe for beer bread and since it was as easy as heck and sounded interesting, we decided to give it a go – seriously, with only 3 ingredients required, it’s one of the fastest bread recipes we’ve ever found.

We don’t drink much beer but always keep a spare can of Guinness for beef stew (another post on that someday), we used that for the recipe. Looking back, it added a very rich, heady taste to the bread and we could have substituted it with a lighter, sweeter tasting beer for the next time.

Having read most of the comments at the bottom of the recipe, we made the following revisions:

  • Changed 3 tablespoons of white sugar to 1/3 cup of brown sugar (we thought the brown sugar would go better with Guinness)
  • Let the bread sit for 30 minutes
  • Rub melted butter over the top of the dough before popping it into the oven to give it a beautiful crust

Much to our surprise, it tasted fantastic!
